ESM - Engineering Strong-Motion database
ESM - Engineering Strong-Motion   database

ESM  release 1.0

This version of the Engineering Strong-Motion database (ESM) has been developed in the framework of the European Project NERA (Network of European Research Infrastructures for Earthquake Risk Assessment and Mitigation), Network Activity 3: Networking acceleration networks and SM data users. The database is maintained by WG5 of ORFEUS.

ESM allows users to query earthquake and station information and download earthquake waveforms and response spectra for events with magnitude ≥ 4.0 mainly recorded in the European-Mediterranean and the middle-East regions.

ESM is fully compatible with the European Integrated Data Archive (EIDA), a distributed data centre established to securely archive seismic waveform data and related metadata, based on international seismological standards. ESM also includes: European Strong-Motion Database (FP5 1998-2002), the ITalian ACcelerometric Archive (ITACA), the Strong Ground Motion Database of Turkiye and the HEllenic Accelerogram Database (HEAD).

This site provides access to the Engineering Strong-Motion database (ESM), containing strong-motion records and associated earthquake, station and waveform parameters. The user can interactively search the fully relational database and download the selected strong-motion records and associated parameters. The earthquake and station metadata are obtained and constantly kept up to date from authoritative sources, and therefore meta-data may change over time even in file headers. Although all the parameters have been checked by analysts, no warranty, implicit or explicit is attached to the data. Every risk due to the improper use of data or the use of inaccurate information is assumed by the user.
In no event shall ORFEUS (Observatories and Research Facilities for European Seismology) or its sub-awardees be liable to any party for direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost profits, arising out of the use of the works, even if ORFEUS or its subawardees have been advised of the possibility of such damage.
The license of each waveform has been assigned by the data provider. Providers should be acknowledged according to the International Federation of Digital Seismograph Networks (FDSN).
